~Blushing in "Loved"!~

Picture"Loved" Wedding Gown. This image is property of Sun*Kissed Designs and dKin Photography.
Recently, Sun*Kissed Designs collaborated with d Kin Photography, as part of the creative vision of photographer Ashley Stubbs, for a photo shoot! The photo shoot took place at Crow Farm and Vineyard in Kennedyville, MD and featured the floral design of Intrigue Design and Decor, make-up artistry by Behind the Compact and Joy Bowman as the beautiful model.

"Loved" Wedding Gown is a sneak peak of the new Coastal Collection by Sun*Kissed Designs! It is a peach chiffon and rayon dress that features a completely hand beaded strap with individual seed beads and alternating pink, blush and dusty rose tulle and organza hand beaded flowers that overflow from the second strap, throughout the chiffon bodice. The skirt base is a flowing rayon that has alternating cathedral pick-ups and gathers. "Loved" was designed with the sunset in mind! As a wedding gown that breaks through traditional design concepts and colors, it was created to accent an outdoor scene, while remaining inviting and classic. When partnered with the beautiful location of Crow Farm and Vineyard, the cascading details of the floral bouquet by Intrigue Design and Decor, the flawless artistry of Behind the Scenes, the effortless beauty of Joy Bowman and the incomparable vision and technique of dKin Photography, it is no wonder that the photo shoot left many blushing with fascination!

Here is the synopsis of the photo shoot by photographer Ashley Stubbs of dKin Photography.

"I wanted to assemble a shoot where we used local artists and contributors to showcase our work. The styled shoot revolved around a handmade dress from Sun*Kissed Designs. The design was custom made, which uses a peach chiffon bodice and peach rayon skirt. There are alternating cathedral gatherings throughout the skirt. The bodice features handmade tulle and organza  flowers and florets that creep up one of the straps. The flowers are centered with beautiful hand beaded pistils and stamens. The other strap is adorned with beads that were hand sewn into the dress.

Behind the Compact did both hair and makeup for our shoot. Sara wanted to incorporate the model's ombre hair coloring into her design. She meticulously hid every bobby pin, too! Also, the makeup was flawless. She was able to give the illusion of airbrush makeup, but with no airbrush at all!

Crow Farm is a locally owned and operated farm that raises angus beef. The farm is also a vineyard that boasts award-winning wine! Crow Farm is home to a bed and breakfast. It will encompass over 10 acres of grapes, which can make several bottles of wine :)!

Intrigue Design and Decor assembled a gorgeous arrangement of roses and orchids. It literally was breathtakingly beautiful.

Joy Bowman was our model for the session. I have worked with Joy on previous shoots, and she has been one of the most gracious models I have ever met. She takes direction and criticism incredibly well. I look forward to seeing BIG things from her."

~An Artist's Eye~ How to Include Artistic Inspiration in Your Bridal Style!

9/16/2013

PicturePablo Picasso's "The Old Guitarist".
As an artist, it is easy for me to see the beauty in everything! From nature to people watching, I see something beautiful in it all. It is no wonder why I feel a novel display themed throughout your reception or bridal style, could include taking an artist's approach.

Including an artistic approach to your reception and bridal style does not need to be a daunting task! Simply think of an artist that inspires you or of whose work you enjoy, and decorate and style with them in mind!

I am a huge lover of Picasso's Blue Period. The colors and feel, though intended to be more melancholy in nature, propel me to notice the fine line created when beauty stops being bright and starts breaking through darkness. The shades of blue, brown and grey are base colors that I include in creating my gowns and pieces that become more jubilant in design, concept, style and construction. This is the same process you can use to incorporate an artistic approach to your wedding day! Notice the key colors, shapes or emotions about artwork that you like and design your bridal inspiration around them.

~Receptions Themed by a Famous Artist~
Artistic Work-"The Old Guitarist"   Artist- Pablo Picasso

-Using the greys, browns, and blues throughout the portrait, build a
color group that you like. Example: Sky Blue and Grey

-Next include more architectural inspiration. Choose reclaimed
wooden frames as table markers and a part of your center
pieces. Notecards with the actual portrait can be sent along with your
invitations as a way to include any special information or directions.

-Lastly, including your chosen colors in your floral arrangements,
bouquets and boutonnieres. This is subtle homage to your inspiration.

~Artistic Elements with Accessories~
Artistic Work- "The Old Guitarist"   Artist- Pablo Picasso

-Including artistic elements with your accessories is simple!
Bridesmaid dresses in soft blue, groomsmen in soft grey instead or  tuxedos or traditional black. A beautiful blue velvet sash tied around
 the waist of your gown!

-You could also include cuff links with Picasso portraits, and printed     silk ring bearer pillows as great ways to continue the artistic theme!

Drawing inspiration from artwork and including it into the elemental design of your wedding can be both fun and meaningful and you will in turn develop your own artist's eye!

~Maid to Perfection~Styling Your Bridesmaids in Non-traditional Ways!~

We can all recall images of bridesmaids in less than flattering bridesmaids' dresses! From the dresses that are terribly outdated to the dresses where the wrong color was chosen, even movies have been made about horrible bridesmaid dress choices! That image does not have to be apart of your wedding!!

Modern bridesmaid dresses have been designed with your bridal party in mind! Styles that not only compliment and flatter every figure and complexion, but are also cute enough to wear again in the future! Your bridesmaids will thank you!

While making the selection of your bridesmaid dresses, here are 4 creative ideas to consider.

Color~
Your bridesmaids do not have to wear the exact same color!! Dresses worn in the same style but in different hues and shades of the same color or within the same color family are a great way to make a unique statement! Shades of blue! Gathers of yellow! Choosing a color theme, such as Spring or Autumn, using a few different colors, is also a great way to switch it up.

Style~
Your bridesmaids do not have to wear the same dress style!! By placing each bridesmaid in a different dress style but in the same color, this will create an individual look that is accommodating of various body types and silhouettes! This also allows you to play around with the lengths, necklines, detailing and fabrications so that each of your gal pals is completely happy and looks stunning!!

Gown Style Theme~
Have you always loved vintage dresses of the 50s!? Do your bridesmaids each love beach inspired sundress gowns?! Create a gown theme, within your bridal colors, that is unique to the personalities of your bridesmaids!

Wedding Theme Styles~
Is your overall wedding theme whimsical, light and airy?! Are you incorporating an antique approach to your wedding decor?! Include elements of your wedding theme into the accessories and detailing of each bridesmaids' look! This allows you to choose the same style of dress and just accessorize and style each bridesmaid differently. Choosing different jewelry or accessories, will accent each dress and compliment each bridesmaid!

Your wedding day will no doubt be a memorable one! And by highlighting each of your bridesmaids in a unique way, they will remember your efforts for years to come!

~Spring is Sprouting!!~

I love Spring!! Not only is it a shift from the colder temperatures of Winter, it is a reminder that change is constant and that new beginnings inevitably beckon for our attention! I happen to notice with no hesitation!

The colors of Spring can be a direct inspiration as you plan your wedding day attire and decor! And incorporating floral elements and accessories can be a chic surprise to any wedding theme.

Spring accents can range from a garden decorated reception or the bride's hidden pair of floral shoes! Adding vines throughout your reception tables and including robust, floral arrangements as your centerpieces, are a great way to pay homage to Spring on your big day. Showering your reception tables with flower petals and candles add a lovely romantic touch!

Floral beading and embellishments add a subtle hint of Spring to any wedding gown and bridesmaid's dress. Fabric flowers and beaded flowers are elements that can make any look playful!

Men's ties in flower prints and Springtime colors, continue the theme. Accessorizing with flower adorned shoes for your bridesmaids and shrugs and wraps with flower embellishments, create a beautiful living bouquet!!

Many wedding planners have created petal designs for the bride to walk through as she makes her grand entrance. These stunning displays can create a floral design or can include the initials of the bride and groom!

With the stunning display that Spring is gifting us daily (yes, even on the rainy days everything looks greener!) find amazing ways to include it into the decor and accessories to make your day memorable!!

~Blueberries and Cream~

Fall is amazing time to tap into the beauty of the season! One of the best things about Fall are the different smells and colors that nature extends! Apple cider and cinnamon! Maple spice and pumpkin! And Blueberries and Cream!

Blueberry is an amazing color that can be combined with even the brightest of hues. Being less stark than black, blueberry is a lighter version of navy blue and adds its own special touch to wedding decor and bridal accessories. It is a sophisticated neutral color with an edge!

Bridesmaids' dresses in blueberry can be accented with pinks, corals and greens. Sapphire jewelry can accent your wedding gown and bridal decor incorporating blueberries and cream will be a beautiful way to get away from traditional black and white themes!

Blueberries and cream can be a subtle way to bring a nautical look and feel to your wedding decor without projecting too much of a theme. By using naval colors solely for inspiration, this allows you to include other elements to your wedding decor. This color combination is strong enough to be paired with the most rustic burlaps and the most pristine silks! When paired in a country, rustic or vintage theme, it lends a touch of modernism. When paired with silks and precious metals, it accentuates classicism!

Play around with different textures of fabrics while using the same shades of blueberry and cream! This creates a depth to the overall look and feel! Be inspired this fall by blueberry and cream. Use it in color selections, decor and maybe even dessert choices...because it tastes just as good as it looks!!

~Fear of Falling~ Non-traditional Approaches to Autumn Weddings

9/20/2012

Picture
When we think of fall, maroons and deep burgundy, hunter greens and brown oranges, saunter in our mind. Twigs and crunchy leaves, cider and chilly temperatures all present themselves. But what if we could go against the grain and accent an autumn wedding with non-traditional colors?!

Putting a different spin on the spice and moss hues of the season, just takes a little ingenuity.

~Start with your favorite color~ In love with hot pink?! Got a thing for lime green?! Start there! There is no other day where your favorite color should be most prominent.

~You don't have to be highly seasoned!~ Twigs, transitioning leaves, maple candles, never have to be apart of your wedding just because it is Autumn. Bring in sand and darker shades of river rocks! Toss in some dried floral elements with fresh lavender or use fresh fruit as part of your center pieces.

~Explore with a touch of gray~ Gray is those beautiful natural colors that can compliment any season. You don't see much gray in the fall, but bring it in by using several different shades of it at once.

~Get out in the elements!~ Fall is an amazing season that also promises a hint of unpredictability! But outdoor weddings and/or receptions don't have to be out of the question. And of course it is not too late to enjoy an intimate setting on the beach! Garden locations that have a small creek, sandy beaches with rocky bluffs, historic local stone buildings, all are unique approaches to locations that will still allow you and your guests to enjoy the elements of Fall!

Think Spring!!

The weather lately has been beautifully unpredictable! With storms and tornadoes touching ground here in the Mid-Atlantic and record high temperatures that challenge the name 'Spring', it may be difficult to draw inspiration that is both beautiful and practical.

Even though the weather is more like Summer, why not just think Spring!!

Inspirations from Spring can still fit into the warmest Summer wedding day. The cool colors of turquoise and sky blue mixed with the light fabrics if silk shantung and crepe back satin, will be visually pleasing and comfortable during the hot summer months.

Clear and frosted glass vases give the look of crisp and cool to any table centerpieces. And fresh spring flowers bring the beautiful color palette to full bloom! River rock favors are a great touch to lead your guests to think of soothing, rocky shores!

The elements of nature that can be tied into your Spring inspired Summer wedding are endless!

Fall In Love!

I loooooooove Fall!!! It is romantic and picturesque and so beautiful! From the cool temperatures (wearing boots!) to cider, tea, candy apples and scents of cinnamon and maple! I love Fall!!

When the seasons change it is the perfect time for transitions. Wardrobe transitions, mindset transitions, and creative transitions! Planning for a fall wedding leaves you with so many options!! (Pun sort of intended!!)

While traditional colors for autumn include browns, oranges and hues of foliage, you can go your own way by infusing natural elements into seasonal expressions and than adding your own twist! For white wedding gowns, choosing colors from your bridal party can still be the bright colors that you would typically reserve for spring and summer, but include natural elements. Add beige and muted (soft) brown to turquoise and magenta. Use mint greens and off white to accent and bring in the color of twigs, sand and moss as natural elements!

For beige and cream wedding gowns, bright colors can still be chosen!! Pair yellow and coral with brown and beige. And lavender and grey coupled with tan and white to create a new fall palette! Accenting with river rocks and seashells in the decor brings in natural elements outside of the traditional offerings of autumn.

To accent the color palette even more, bring in muted gold, silver and bronze. These metallic colors softly move towards to colder days of late fall and early winter and add a sparkle to the overall look. This new combination of colors for fall can definitely be used for both the bridal party and within the decor for your wedding as well!

Play around with textures, tones and natural elements! Have twig pieces added to the boutonnieres! Include soft flowers to your headpiece! And request moss to be added to your bouquet!!

Nature undoubtedly leaves us with bountiful inspiration! Bring it along with you on your special day! (Pun totally intended!)

Of Sand and Shore!

Bringing an element of surprise to show off your bridal style is a great way to keep your wedding unique! You don't have to schedule a destination wedding to sweep your guests away to a calm, serene ambiance. It can all start with the color palette chosen for your wedding party!

Colors like turquoise, pale pink, and khaki, instantly convey the elements of the shore. Incorporating various textures such as soft satin coupled with silk shantung, reflect the smoothness of the water and the grainy sands! By focusing on a neutral color scheme and working in soft and bold colors, you will be sure to create a visual oasis to display for your guests...and to enjoy for yourself!

I believe in keeping things simple! Letting nature and all things lovely inspire! There is a rhythm that nature has and when you let it relax you, you receive this calming moment of bliss! When planning your wedding style, let nature in to guide you!  Miles of sand and eons of ocean can leave you breathless...the same emotion you want to feel from your guests!!

Let the fashion and style from your wedding be one of calm inspiration intrigue and loveliness...blissful...like an ocean oasis of sand and shore.
