~Beautiful Soles~ Shoes for Winter Weddings!

2/8/2013

Picture
Dressing for winter weddings can be inspiring and accessorizing can prove to be fun. But winter weddings also need a practical approach, especially when it comes to shoes!

Winter weather is cold and unpredictable, so here are some amazing alternatives to traditional special occasion footwear that will leave you looking and feeling fabulous!

~Keep The Sparkle!~

Jeweled stilettos (formally called Strassed Heels) are an amazing way to wear shoes that shine! Opt for a closed-toe pair like the Christian Louboutin Pigalle, for weddings during the winter months in colder temperatures.

Many brides decide to wear rain boots on their big day when rain or snow is expected. Hello Kitty (for the kid in you!) has created the Hello Kitty Angelina Rain Boot offered in sparkling pink, silver and black that will add shine and practicality to unpredictable winter weather!

Winter, does promise some clear and beautifully scenic days as well! And to keep your feet warm on your big day, wear a faux fur trimmed stiletto boot accented with a little sparkle, to keep your look chic and stunning!

Not every winter wedding takes place in a colder climate! For the winter destination bride, opt for a jewel accented flip flop to add elegance to a more laid back locale!

Winter weddings are beautiful!! The snow and colder temperatures are truly inspiring. Whether it is through icicles or snow topped roofs, snow is a beautiful way to romanticize a scene!

If you are planning a wedding during the winter months or in a colder destination, there are great ways to accessorize that will leave you looking breathtaking and timeless and will keep you warm!

Faux fur, tweed, velvet, wool, leather and suede are all amazing and versatile fabrics. These textiles are perfect for winter weather and can all remain lovely when used in a neutral palette!

Wraps, shrugs and jackets are all great accessories that can be made using winter weight fabrics and in the colors that will match and/or compliment your wedding gown and bridal colors! Each creates a different styled look and feel for your wedding and a fun way to include something old, new, borrowed or blue!

Picture
Faux fur is a beautiful way to keep warm! It is cost effective and can be accessorized with beautiful brooches to increase its elegance!

Choose a winter weight fabric that is neutral in color so that it can be adorned with crystals or sparkling elements that will make it pop!

~Holiday Sparkle!~

I love the Christmas Season!! It is truly the most wonderful time of the year! People come together to celebrate and give and it is really an amazing time that brings out the best in people! It is also the time of the year where everything shines...and Sparkles!!

The decor sparkles! The lights sparkle! And dresses and accessories sparkle!! You can even add sparkle to your wedding gown!!

I love adding hand beading and sparkle to gowns and accessories!! It can tell a story or simply just add a special touch that sends a smile to any silhouette. Adding sparkle to your wedding gown and accessories can be done with subtle accents or with ornate displays. The choice is yours!

Brooches can be used to approach subtle accents on gowns and accessories. Brooches tell a story, whether intended or not, they all come from somewhere and were inspired by a certain look. The most intriguing brooches are vintage or vintage inspired. Anything vintage carries a level of mystery and when made with quality materials, it has withstood the tests of time and wear and tear! Vintage inspired brooches lead you to imagine an era that it could have come from and may inspire you to include accessories that are vintage inspired as well!

Ornate displays of sparkle are my favorite! There is so much that can be said within the designs of hand beading. Whether the images are floral or abstract, the display remains the same...breathtaking!

Hand beading and beading embellishments are time and labor intensive. But they produce the most ornate expressions of sparkle short of using actual jewels, precious stones or enhanced rhinestones! The reflective sparkle with hand beading can be subtle within the colorful beading of various seed beads and pearls or it can be multi-faceted by using mostly reflective beads and Swavorski Elements. Adding ornate pieces to your gown and/or accessories, creates a bold and beautiful statement!

Both subtle and ornate sparkle can be added to your gown and accessories or to your gifts and decor as well! A favorite vendor of Sun*Kissed Designs' is Blair Roberts of Sweet Blossoms LLC in Germantown, MD! Blair created the beautiful flower hat that was used in the finale of the T Rose International Bridal Show in Greenbelt, MD this summer, where some of the gowns in the current collection were featured as well! Her work is exquisite! And adding sparkle to your bridal bouquet is a fun and amazing way to personalize the elements of your wedding! The pink flower bouquet with the rhinestone pins, shown below, is one of the many great arrangements that Sweet Blossoms creates!

Beautiful brooch bouquets and eye catching jewelry are great ways to add a bit of ornate sparkle to your big day or winter inspired festivities and Christmas Celebrations!

Be creative when incorporating winter sparkle within your wedding decor! Vintage bracelets can used as napkin rings! Sequins table runners can accent any color palette! and farewell sparklers are the perfect send off!

No matter how you approach it, sparkle is a lovely element to incorporate while celebrating both the Christmas season and your wedding!

Creating the ~Vintage Winter Sparkle~ Photo Shoot!

11/17/2012

Picture
Developing a concept like "Vintage Winter Sparkle" was easy for me! Think of the pretty things I would like to see at a winter wedding. But I wanted to take the concept a step further by choosing artisans that were passionate about their crafts and put their heart and soul in their work. I knew just who to ask!!

Jen Reilly Hattenbach Reilly-Graves~ Jen Reilly Photography/ P Square Studios

Jen and I met at a bridal show and have collaborated on a photo shoot in the past. So working with her was an idea I didn't have to think twice about! What most people don't know is that in addition to being an amazing photographer, Jen creates photo books of the images with her own graphic elements, that can personalize any collection of memories!

Tenisha Dotstry~ Peggy Jay Jewelry

I had the pleasure of meeting and collaborating with Tenisha during a bridal fashion show where I was first introduced to her amazing jewelry! Beautiful and timeless pieces that compliment any gown. And crystal jeweled shoes that can be custom jeweled!!!! (She applies each jewel one by one!) I've fell in love with her work and will not look back!

Sara Lawrence~ Up Do's for I Do's

It was at my very first bridal show that I met Ashley Riddle, the owner of Up Do's for I Do's! She was so nice and had super amazing staff members, I knew that I had to collaborate with her in some way in the future! So while planning the shoot I knew I wanted the best and she and her staff are definitely the best! (Just look at their work and  read the reviews and raves!!) She and her team can make any make-up application look natural and can create beautiful hair styles for any occasion! Sara was the perfect beauty expert, so good that this renowned make-up artist, can effortlessly create and maintain any overall look!

Maribel Kalata~ EightTreeSteet

Being a lover of all things pretty and florals was the starting place when choosing a florist for the shoot. Maribel's passion speaks volumes and is seen in every detail of every arrangement, boutonniere...and brooch bouquet!!! I adore brooch bouquets (and had no idea how heavy they are!) And Maribel's bouquets tell a story! You wonder not just what was her inspiration, but why certain pieces were chosen and where they had been before. Her flower arrangements bring elements in from nature that compliment without being an obvious choice. Her work is pleasant to be around!

Rachael Powers~ Cakes by Rachael

Rachael's cakes are amazing. They taste good and look like artwork! What more can you ask for! It takes great skill to show the elegance of simple design. Although much of her work is also ornate, the beautiful cakes made for our shoot, were designed in such a way that effortless beauty was on full display!

The Elkridge Furnace Inn

The Elkridge Furnace Inn is a fine dining restaurant rich in decadent cuisine, vintage elegance and local history. Located on the Patapsco River, this venue that holds weddings, special events and corporate meetings, was the perfect place for this shoot! The interior and the exterior grounds created a special location full of natural elements that could be the perfect backdrop for love in any season. It also has the most professional and kind staff around!

Tia Beverly and Anthony Smith~ Our Lovely Models!

What can I say Tia and Anthony are just beautiful! And from start to finish very professional and accommodating. I knew that they had the look I was going for for the shoot, and after working with them, I know they have the talent as the perfect models as well!

The 3 Most Important Things to Remember When Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Gown!!

10/27/2012

Picture
This past Tuesday, Sun*Kissed Designs had the pleasure of being a participating vendor for the Kathleen Hertel Photography "Behind the Scenes" Event! It was a great pleasure to meet with the blushing brides and amazing vendors! In case you missed it here in its entirety are The 3 Most Important Things to Remember When Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Gown!!

The 3 Most Important Things to Remember When Choosing Your Perfect Wedding Gown!!

Your Personality!

You are at the forefront of your wedding day! This is arguably one of the most important days of your life and you need to be true to yourself!

*Stay true to your style and choose a gown that highlights your personality! But
don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone a little bit!

                       * Include style elements that speak to you!
                       * Beading, lace, sashes, crystals, handmade flowers, feathers and
                          intricate tailoring.
                       * Even adding a splash of color is a fun way to personalize your dress.
And choosing colors other than white, such as cream, beige,
champagne or even your favorite color are all great ways to bring
                         personality to your gown!

*Consider gown styles such as vintage, modern, couture and avant garde, which
are simple ways to create a look all your own.

*Add great jewelry to open necklines, or wear shawls, caplets, ruffle collars and
muffs with simpler gowns for weddings during the colder months. They will
keep you warm and be an amazing way to showcase your individuality!

Your Figure!

Certain gowns are more figure flattering than others. But that does not limit you as a bride to only certain styles!!

*Avoid hiding areas that you are insecure about and instead find ways to
fashionably accentuate them! There is only one you, so shine on your wedding day!!

*There are 6 main wedding gown silhouettes and 3 of them have separate
variations. A point to remember is that every figure can be flattered at the
 natural waist!

                        * Ball Gown- Also called the princess silhouette, is fitted at the bodice
then bellows out into a full skirt.
                * A-Line Gown- This gown typically falls directly below the waist and
the skirt flares in a triangle shape.
                        * Mermaid Gown- Dramatically form-fitting, usually until the knees
and then flares out to the feet.
                        * Sheath Gown- Slim in the bodice and skirt and may or may not have
                           a little flare or kick.
                        * Empire Gown- Similar to the A-Line but the seam is just under the
bust line instead of at the waist.
                        * Goddess Gown- An Empire Gown that flows instead of being in an
                           A-Line silhouette.
                        * Trumpet Gown- Similar to the Mermaid Gown only it is form-fitting
until the mid-thigh and then becomes an A-Line. (Think of the bell of
                           a trumpet!)
                        * Basque Gown (bah-sk)- Similar to the Ball Gown silhouette but the
bodice is elongated until just at the hips.

*There are 10 main gown necklines and each adds a different feel to your wedding
  gown and overall look.

*Straight Neckline- Also called Strapless. It is the basic
neckline that forms a line across your chest. This is a great way to
                           show off your shoulders.
                * Sweetheart Neckline- This neckline can also be used for strapless
dresses. It dips in the center to create the heart shape.
                        * V-neck Neckline- The V-neck can be dramatic or subtle and can be
sleeveless, have sleeves or cap sleeve or it can be apart of a halter.
                        * Scoopneck Neckline- Rounded neckline with thin, thick or very thin
                           spaghetti straps.
                        * Boatneck Neckline- A high neckline that dips in the center and
                           crosses from shoulder to shoulder.
                        * Portrait Neckline- Is similar to a sweetheart neckline that has the
collar draw closer to your neck.
                        * Halter Neckline- Wraps upward around the neck and creates a
backless silhouette. Also a great way to show off your shoulders.
                        * Asymmetric Neckline- This neckline is a V-neckline that is off-
centered either to the right or to the left shoulder. An asymmetric
neckline can be created by tailoring or be embellishments where
flowers or a design only cover one side of the neckline.
                        * One Shoulder Neckline- Is a Straight or Strapless Neckline that has
an embellishment or sleeve that is attached to only one shoulder.
                       *  High Collar Neckline- This neckline extends upward toward
face and can be created down into a V-Neckline, Sweetheart
Neckline, Portrait Neckline, or a Scoopneck Neckline.

There are dozens more necklines that one could play around with such as the Jewel, Mandarin, Square, Cowl, Off the Shoulder, Cross Over and many more. Many of my gowns have High Collar, V-Neck, Sweetheart, Portrait, Square, and Asymmetric necklines. I love the options that necklines pose! When I designed the silhouette for my gowns, I wanted to find a way to incorporate all of the elements in the various traditional silhouettes into gowns that could flatter any figure because they cut at and accentuate the natural waist and because the necklines and gown bottoms can be interchanged! This allows you to create a gown that flatters your figure perfectly and is unique as well. I also play with the hemline as this draws the eye upward and elongates the legs thus creating a slim silhouette without taking away from your natural curves.

This is also something that a great photographer will notice. I met Kathleen Hertel at a bridal show that she was the official photographer for. During that bridal show I had a chance to showcase my gowns in a fashion show where I had 5 models of different heights and sizes and looks. Some of my models had never modeled before. Kathleen is perfect at what she does! She captured my gowns and models beautifully. She knew the right angles and lighting to make everything look amazing. That's what you want to look for when choosing a photographer, one who knows the right angles and lighting that will capture both you and your gown perfectly! You find that in professionals who are passionate about their gift and about bringing your wedding dreams to life!

The third and final point to remember when choosing your wedding gown is Your Budget!

Your Budget!
Getting your dream wedding gown doesn't have to be expensive.

*Custom gowns are not as expensive as you think!

                        * Sitting down with a designer creates a personal interaction with
someone who cares about every element that makes your wedding
perfect and you can have a gown created that matches your budget
                           exactly.
                        * Custom gowns ensure that you get exactly what you are looking for.
                        * And they eliminate the need for alterations as the gown is tailor made
                           to your exact measurements.

*Choose a simple silhouette and accent it with beautiful jewelry and accessories!

                        * This can help you stay on budget and allow you to accessorize your
gown in a way that is truly unique!
                        * You can infuse different colors and fabrics and meaningful family
                           heirloom jewelry pieces.

*Get the gown of your dreams (That exceeds your budget) replicated and add
special touches to make it all your own!

                         * This also includes getting a more budget friendly dress that
you can have altered or embellished to your liking!

*Attend sample sales and trunk shows!

                         * Discounts are usually offered during these events and it is
even possible to get a dress from last season at a higher discount.

*Choose vendors who are not only experts in their field but are also passionate about their craft!

                          * This means that they will go above and beyond to give you the best
and are not just focusing on the sale.
                          * When a vendor is passionate, they are always learning and trying
                              new things!
                          * This is great for you because you get to experience different skills
within 1 professional, which allows you to relax and trust the
                              vendor with your big day!

So remember, when choosing your perfect wedding gown to keep you personality, your figure and your budget at the forefront, and you can't go wrong!
